Open Position Lab Assistant at Prof. Boris Houska and Prof. Sören Schwertfeger's Robotics Labs, SIST

ShanghaiTech University is research university of academic excellence. At the School of Information Science and Technology Prof. Boris Houska and Prof. Sören Schwertfeger are performing cuting-edge research in the areas of Control Theory and Robotics. A position for a lab assistant supporting the Professors with translations between Chinese and English as well as supporting the work in the robotics labs is open.

Required Skills:

· Good command of written and oral English

· Native Chinese speaker

· Technical skills:

* Minimum: Bachelor in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related area – Master preferred

* Minimum: Basic programming skills in C++

* Minimum: Basic Electrical Engineering skills, for example simple circuits, soldering

* Optimal: Experience with robotics

* Optimal: Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS)

Tasks:

· Support the non-Chinese speaking faculty

· Translate documents and e-mails from Chinese to English

· Translate technical documents from English to Chinese

* For example proposals and reports

* The technical area is robotics, control, optimization and computer science

* Graduate students can help with the translation

· Help with the lab organization, for example:

* Find Chinese vendors of quality equipment/ parts for the robots

* Help with negotiations with contractors for robot manufacturing

* Organize the lab, supervise students during experiments

· Ideally:

* Help with the construction of robots

* Maintain robots and equipment

* Help with programming

* Help with experiments

* Give lab courses on robotics
