中秋賞月，不妨向友人講述幾個“月亮”詞匯。還記得否?早先談過的blue moon(藍月亮)指“罕見、不常發(fā)生的事”，今天的over the moon(在月亮上)則是指“欣喜若狂”。
Over the moon源于一首歡快的兒歌：“Hey, diddle, diddle/The cat and the fiddle/The cow jumped over the moon/The little dog laughed/To see such sport/And the dish ran away with the spoon.”(嘿，快搖、快搖/貓咪和小提琴/母牛跳過月亮/小狗看到哈哈笑/碟子帶著湯勺不見了。)
兒歌雖然毫無意義，但是兒歌中的over the moon倒被大人采用，用來形容“興高采烈”。到了上世紀70年代，over the moon常用語體育賽事，指贏得比賽后大家“欣喜若狂”。如：The whole team is over the moon at winning the competition.(全隊因贏得這場比賽而歡呼雀躍。)
